Whenever I ask Vista to speak "help" or "100" by SAPI 4.0 (HTTSLib), Werfault.exe snags speaking and makes applications "no response!"

SQL Turing Completeness question

Is SQL turing complete with stored procedures? More interestingly, is SQL turing complete without stored procedures? Also, is/should SQL be considered a computer programming language?

I am curious about this as the answer to the last question will determine whether I know 7 computer programming languages or 8. Specifically, I know PHP, SQL, SML, C, C++, Java, Assembly and Fortran. That is approximately the order in which I learned them, although I learned some languages simultaneously and others took longer to learn than others. Also, I am considering both x86 assembly and MIPS assembly to be the same language.

Dear Sirs.

Distribution of .NET Instance it take harder because size of the framework is became too large.

MS Provide in .NET 3.5 SP1 a "Client Profile" That works only on XP SP2
Without any .NET Framework Installed on that.
Practicaly .NET Clinet Prifile is a theoritical solution, in Practise you have to install full .NET 3.5.

My Idea is to gives developer Chance Deploy Named Instance of .NET Framework. (Like is it in SQL Server).

and in our Custom Instance to give us posibility deploy that part of
the .net framwork that need our application.

If in App.Confougation will not a special row like "Run in Instance 'myInstace'" that app runs in a default instance.

I think that this posibiliy solve many problems:

1) Faster App Deploy
2) Application Compability

P.S. I Post This in to the Microsoft "Conenct" and waiting their responce for that.

Okay, Basically i have created a program which works in just the same was a macro.

The application listens for a key to be pressed before it sends the text which is inside one of the text boxes on the form.

What i have been trying to do is make it so that the user can define their own button to press to send the macro

Currently it works if in the code if specify something like vbkeyF1 or vbKeyY or any vbKey code.

But when i try to put it in a variable it just gives me the run time error '13' blah blah....

I have tried using a CONST as a variable but they cannot be changed during run time and are fixed variables.

I Currently use "Private Declare Function GetKeyPress Lib "user32" Alias "GetAsyncKeyState" (ByVal KEY As Long) As Integer" to listen to global keypresses...

If there is an easier way of being able to listen to keypresses the way i want it please tell me :P

I have an ASP.Net site, using ASP.net membership / authentication.

Authentication type is forms.

When I sign in to my website (standard asp.net login control), it works fine... for about a minute. after which, I need to sign in again whenever I try to navigate.

I have looked at web.config, and the timeout in the membership provider is set at 30

Any suggestions?

(It might be something really simple - I haven't done web dev for a couple o' years...)

Windows CE Menu Question

I am developing a user interface for a camera based on windows ce 6.0.

I am working in straight c++ without mfc, .net compact framework and so on.
My problem ist the following (and it makes me sick :):
I have a popupmenu, which is a ressource and it's loaded as a ressource. In this popupmenu I want to have little icons or bitmaps bevor the menuitemtext.
I am searching for so long for a solution, but I can't find any.
Maybe it's not even possible to create such a good looking menu? I am really helpless and a bit dissapppointed of the possibibility that windows ce gives to developers.

Does anybody know what to do, I am open to new concepts!

Populate one SQL Report Param using another parameter?

So, I have a SQL report, and the query I want to use will have 4 parameters. However, two of those will be based on the other two. What do I mean?

These two params will be provided:
@CurStartDate
@CurEndDate

From that, I want to subtract 1 Year and get these parameters:
@PrevStartDate
@PrevEndDate

I tried going into Report Parameters and setting the Non-queried Default values to an expression using DateAdd and a -1 year, but I get errors when I try to run the report.

Also, how do I see the exact errors?

Windows live ID expiration

Hi

I was wondering whether someone from Microsoft can tell me whether a windows live ID account can be re-instated once it has expired. This has caused me no end of problems because I only used the windows live account for my XBOX live account, and therefore didn't log into windows live for a year, which expired the account. Therefore I can't sign into XBOX live either, and creating a new account in windows live doesn't work

Anyone, as this is a pain and xbox live support haven't been able to help. Therefore if I could simply get the original account re-instated, then this would solve the issues

How to add runtime license to Windows CE devices

Is there a method/tool that can be used to add the run-time license for Windows CE devices for mass deployment?
Does Windows CE have cloning and reseal tools like in XP Embebeed Reseal tool? (except from the platform builder)

And, what will happen if I compiled an image with Pro License requirement and just input a core license?
Will the system still run as designed?

RRAS Woes

I'm having so many problems with RRAS in so many scenarios I don't know where to begin. But I'll list them in order of perceived difficulty to fix:

DHCP Not Working
Okay, this isn't to do with RRAS, but the DHCP server that's also on the same box. Sometimes when I connect my laptop to my network it often fails to get a DHCP lease, I'm not sure if it's a problem with my laptop or not though. If I give my laptop a static IP address everything else then works fine. A lot of the time it works fine though. When it doesn't work disabling/enabling the adapter doesn't work, neither does hitting Repair (often it stays open and the "Close" button doesn't do anything). Only a few times when I renable DHCP on my laptop does it work, the rest of the time it just sits there "Aquiring network address..."

NAT failing when Dial-on-Demand Enabled... or disabled
This is where it gets a bit voodoo. My network has my laptop and desktop connected to a switch along with a WS2008 box. This WS2008 box has RRAS installed and functioning as a NAT router (it has two NICs: the first is to the Internet, the other to the LAN's switch).

When I go Routing and Remote Access > %server% > Properties > General and check "LAN and demand-dial routing" then the server's NAT function stops working. The server itself can communicate with the Internet, but computers using the server as a NAT (i.e. my laptop and desktop) can't reach outside the LAN.

You'd think that by checking "Local area network (LAN) routing area" back again would fix it. It doesn't. In order to get the NAT working again I need to disable RRAS and go through the configuration wizard to recreate it as a NAT and it works again.

Connected to a Remote Access VPN, but can't ping/access anything
I have an RRAS box at another site which serves as a Remote Access server, it's PPTP for simplicity (I'll change it to L2TP once I get it working properly). Anyway, I've created a VPN connection on my laptop and I can successfully connect and authenticate myself with the VPN. So far, so good.

...but I can't ping anything. I can't even ping the IP address the VPN gave me for my gateway computer, let alone any other devices in the target network. I've tried both an IP address pool and DHCP Forwarding but with no luck.

Creating a demand-dial connection to that remote-access VPN
Eventually I want to get a Site-to-Site VPN working between the two sites using the WS2008 box at my end to act as the router to the other network as well as serving as a NAT for this network. I know it's possible with static routes but I don't know what I should do. But clearly the other three issues need fixing before this can work.

Any ideas? :)

SQL IX lock

I have a SQL view that grabs data from various tables. One of those tables is table Y. The view is kinda slow and while the view is running I am unable to run any update statements on table Y. So I ran a stored procedure to view the current locks on the SQL server while the view is running. There was an IX lock on table Y. Now this view is only used to "View" data; why would the SQL server lock that table while it's running? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? :/

Potential SSL problem

I'm trying to get to a particular website (myopenid.com). My browser keeps showing "Connection Interrupted." Digging into the TCP packets, I see that the checksums are incorrect. My guess is that's part of the problem.

In a "corporate" type of network, what are some of the things that I should check?

Finding register date of domain from DNS record

Hello everyone,

    We also know of how those spam mailers work... register and pay for a new domain... sending lots of spam mails... requesting for refund... loop it... The frequent change of domain name makes blacklisting almost non-workable.

    I'm thinking of adding a rule to existing mail server plugin that unless the "email address" is in the "whitelist", if the domain is registered within a month, it'll be discarded. Is there anyway to get this information programmably? I'm thinking about getting it from DNS records (I thought it could be in SOA) but it doesn't seems to be there.

    Hope someone can give me a pointer to this.

C Standard Library Mathematics Functions missing on Ubuntu and Solaris?

I wrote a small program that is very math heavy as part of a project I have. I compiled it with GCC on Ubuntu Linux. I then tried using GCC's linker and it complained about sqrt, log and cos being undefined symbols.

I decided that this was due to some misconfiguration of my linux installation, so I scped the files over to my unversity's unix server (solaris 5.9) and then tried again. I received the same errors.

I had #include<math.h> at the top of my source file and there was nothing I could see that should cause this type sort of an error. I recalled using the math library on Windows once a long time ago, so I tried compiling my program with Visual Studio 2008 Professional on Windows XP SP3. It compiled, linked and executed without a problem.

Does anyone know why these functions appear to be missing? I have used other C standard libraries in the past, but this is the first time when a C standard library's functions appeared to be missing.

WinForms: Making the main form dimmed

You know how on many websites, when a popup occurs that is a part of that website, to gather information from the user, and the main page goes dim. I'd like to do the same thing with a Windows Form application so that if a modal dialog box needs to be popped up then the rest of the application goes dim until the user responds to the dialog box and dismisses it.

How do I do that?
