WOW this is cool !!

C9 just appeared with a lot of links en fixed titels in DUTCH, my native language

COOl !

yup. part of v4 is that it is localizable and know it is being localized. first with the menus, next with exlusive content from local areas. content will be created by local evangelists and community folks.

we will work to make it so you see content appropriate to your locale, but make sure you can see other content too.

happy almost 4th folks.

I hope you guys make that locale dependent and not IP dependent Smiley I would like to stick with the English version instead of getting the German or Italian one; depending on where I'm.
We determine this based on several factors:

  1. Your browser accept-language
  2. Your 'language' setting in your profile
  3. and we'll allow you to explicitly add it to the URL in the future: http://channel9.msdn.com/ja

lower #s win, so you can have your browser set to it-it, but if your profile is set to en-us, then you'll see english

That's a really great feature!

But I discovered a problem: I switched from German (Germany) to English (Europe - EMEA) but all localized texts didn't change back to english, not even after closing the browser.

Is this a general problem, do I need to sign out or... ?
You switched your profile to English and it didn't change, or you changed your browser and it didn't change?
I changed my profile to Dutch and it didn't change, either (not that I speak dutch, but still...).  Profile settings should take precedence over browser settings for logged-in users (and likewise, determine the initial value of the user's language based on their browser settings when they register).
I switched the language in C9's user profile to: English (Europe - EMEA)
My browser is using the locale: de

... and C9 is currently using some german texts.

They do... both... This is a bit odd, I changed my profile right now to german, and the menus switched happily to german, I changed it to English-US and they switched back...
Hmm... changed my browser to german and I'm getting the same results... the menu always reflect my user profile setting when signed in.
I tried some things again, and the only thing that worked was switching the browser locale.

Would it be helpful to provide a recorded screen capturing?
I don't think that would help, but I appreciate the offer! Great that you'd be willing to go to that length to help troubleshoot this.

For now, I think I'll add some output to the page (as a comment) that says what language we are using and why (browser detection vs. user profile, etc...)
Nils, that problem should be fixed now... you should always get your profile language if you are signed in
Works now.  Might have just been caching on my end.

I actually wouldn't mind changing my username...  I registered the account that I'd change to a long time ago (Jonathon) but I don't want to lose my post history.

But what's done is done, so unless you have an easy way to switch usernames around, I'm stuck.

If you have any suggestions as to the translation.. see here. Smiley
It's... интересно... Smiley

BTW, "Coffeehouse" (+ a little bit of humour) in Russian is "Кафешка"...
I tried it back and forth and it is working now.

Thanks and great work!

Just a side note: as mentioned here I discovered some caching issues, too. Some settings survived clearing the cache, but after closing the browser it worked well. Besides of that everything works great.
What's the humor there? I know that the best way to ruin a good joke is by explaining is, but I'm wondering why that's a humorous translation. Smiley
Just learn Russian to understand why. Russian words have many forms. "Humour" here isn't "laugh" or "fun". Just a form of word.
So, humour without actual humour? That's an interesting concept.
It's just a form of word. Nothing more. Like "-ish".
