I have a small utility, whose sole job it to synchronise 2 databases periodically, and notify local programs if a table has changed.

In CLR Profiler, the app is reportedly using 6.7Mb of memory, however, Task manager reports > 180Mb of mem usage for the process.

One of my customers has seen this, and decided "It's a memory leak!" (despite the figure hardly changing over time / use), and therefore my boss is on my back asking why there is a mem leak and how do we stop it... (tried explaining that the app is not leaking... so he asked whether it was because I had 'tightened' it). Oh dear.

Is there anything I can do to reduce what Task manager reports?

Hello.

I have an app that needs to send some data up to the web every hour or so.

One of my clients wants to do this over GPRS, and has already set up the dial-up networking in windows.

He has also set the option to 'Always dial my default connection' in Internet Explorer's settings dialog.

However, when my app tries to contact the outside world, it fails to do so, but does not even attempt to make the dial-up connection as I expected it would.

Is there anything else I need to do to get it to dial the default connection if necessary?

How can I copy the game saves and downloaded games etc over to the hard drive of the new one before I ship the old one back?

I have a WPF UserControl (Lets call it DisplayItem)

In the body of the class for DisplayItem, I register a DependencyProperty (lets call it displaytext)

Now, If I want to display 2 of these in a listbox, I run into a problem.
As soon as the second DisplayItem is created, I get an error when trying to register the DP, because a DP has already been registered with that name, for that type.

As far as I can see, registering all DPs at once (e.g. at app startup) is not an option, as I will end up with NullReference exceptions, because I will not be assigning the DP on each DisplayItem to an instance.

How do I do it?

Hey all.

I have a web app running on DiscountASP's U.S. Servers.

I am UK based.

When my desktop app sends its data to the web app, the datetimes seem to mess up.

Lets say a record is created here that says 9.24PM

When I view that record from the website, it says 1.24PM, which I assume is due to the time difference.

Is there a way I can set my application to use a time offset when reading the data? At the moment the web app is also consumed exclusively by UK clients.

Hello all.

I was wondering if anybody could recommend a licensing system for my software.

Key features it must have are;

Activate online or over the phone
Offer a trial period (of my software), and ability to extend that at my discretion
Can revoke licenses that have previously been granted
MUST NOT be one of those where you have to also use their obfuscator for it to work.

Features that I would like

If a user tries to activate one license on multiple machines, it revokes the license for ALL affected machines, causing them to contact us and explain what they were trying to do.
Ability for a reseller to generate their own license codes online, and we just bill them for it.

Hi guys

I have a PC that seems to have a corrupt SQL2008 Express installation.

I cannot access the instance.

I tried to uninstall in CP, but it said that the product was not installed, and that I should therefore remove the item for Add / remove programs.

I tried running the installer for our product which has 2008 Express as a Pre-Req, but it does not detect that 2008 needs to be installed - seems to believe that it is already on the machine.

I tried to run the SQL 2008 setup manually, and I get the error logged as below:

I have an ASP.Net site, using ASP.net membership / authentication.

Authentication type is forms.

When I sign in to my website (standard asp.net login control), it works fine... for about a minute. after which, I need to sign in again whenever I try to navigate.

I have looked at web.config, and the timeout in the membership provider is set at 30

Any suggestions?

(It might be something really simple - I haven't done web dev for a couple o' years...)

Hey all

I've created a WCF service, which I am hosting in IIS.

When I try to nav to my service, I go to http://(url)/syncserver/Service1.svc

and I get a 404 error.

I have double, and triple checked the url and it is definitely correct.

Any Suggestions?

I have a dataset with a numbr of tables

All of the tables have a 'SiteID' column, Int, Default is -1

The *Actual* siteID is available globally via a property in the program.

Is there a way that I can set the SiteID default value in the dataset to read this property, or a function?

or

Do I have to listen for the appropriate event on the datatable, and make the change there?

I'm trying to access a SQL 2008 Express instance over my Lan, but for some reason I can't connect to it using SQL management studio .

The instance is set to allow TCP connections, and the machine is available. I've switched off the firewall to rule that out also.

In SQL 2005 there was a SQL Browser than needed to run for this to work, but it seems that there is nothing of the sort in 2008

The code tags seem to play up if you put your first line of code on the line below the opening tag.

e.g.

However if you start the code on the same line as the opening tag, it's fine.

In ff3, if you try to edit your post, it does not let you delete as your first action.

let me clarify.

Say I accidentally put an extra letter in a word that I want to remove.

I click edit, and then the text appears in the text editor.

However the Del or Bksp keys do not work unless I type some other letters first.

It does, however work in bothe IE and chrome.

When using Chrome, if I press any of the 'toolbar' buttons in the text editor, the whole page scrolls upwards a few screen lengths.

I assume it's an issue with the browser itself, but I thought I'd make you aware.

If you have time, DL and have a look at the DBCenter app from https://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlceviewer

The app itself has the potential to be pretty useful, but the UI falls well within the bounds of "Just because you could doesn't mean you should..."

I just hope that people don't start thinking that all WPF apps must look like this...

I've been looking into a few things, and by the look of it, SQL Express 2008 (core) does not seem to to support Synchronisation Services.

according to this blog, sync services is available only on SQL Express with Advanced Services.

Now, am I getting my wires crossed, and thinking that the synchronisation services mentioned in that blog post are the same thing as the ADO Synchronisation stuff, or is it something else to do with SQL replication?

(If they are different things, then someone from marketing needs a slap)

If they are the same thing.... well that's just stupid.

EDIT

When I say does it support it, I mean out-of-the-box.

Otherwise it's just another package that I have to manually install when installing SQL server express.

(Why don't they auto-install their prerequisites like nearly every other piece of software??)
